News: Toronto Extended to 2020

The Honda Indy Toronto in Exhibition Place, Toronto will continued to be called the Honda Indy Toronto until the 2020 season.

Since joining the schedule in 1986, IndyCars have raced at Toronto every year excluding the 2008 merger season. It has continually produced exciting racing and has become the premier street circuit on the venue.

Honda's continued sponsorship will allow the event to continue to thrive. Media outlets were skeptical of the event's long term future after the track layout changed for the 2016 race. Hotel construction (and the subsequent hotel) took the place of the old paddock and pit road area of the old layout. The new pit road and paddock had to be moved across the street, with the new pit road now no longer a straight line. The new section of race track after the pit road is very tight and bumpy, but now after year two, the critics have seemed to subside.

No date has been given for the race next year, though it becomes another domino in the 2018 schedule. Jay Frye still says that every race on the schedule will return next season, and Toronto will be there for years to come.

My Opinion

Another positive sign for the schedule. This event was once under serious threat to go away, but now it is thriving again. Thanks to Honda, Jay Frye, Mark Miles, and Green Savoree Racing Promotions for keeping the event going.
