Season Review: Helio Castroneves

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reveiws, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Helio Castroneves
#3 Team Penske

2nd in points scoring 550 points.

Best finish: 1st (Texas)
Worst finish: 23rd (Houston Race 2)

Best moment: Win at Texas
Worst moment: Houston. The whole weekend.

Grade: A

Close but no cigar for Helio Castroneves, and, once again, he did not capture the Indycar Title. It is still hard to believe he has not finished the season P1 in points. He was by far the most consistent driver this season, running at the finish of every race. The problem with his season was he only won one race. Scott Dixon proved that winning is more important than being consistent. Winning four races with a couple hiccups along the way is better than winning once and being consistent. Helio had a statistically amazing season going up until Houston, where he finally got his dose of bad luck in the form of mechanical failures in both races of the doubleheaders. He went from leading by a lot to trailing Dixon. The only race he did win was Texas, and even that was marred by failing post race technical inspection. All in all, it was a great season for Helio, but even that wasn't good enough to take the title.

Helio will be back again in 2014. Will this finally be the year that Helio wins his championship?
