Season Review: Simona de Silvestro

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reveiws, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Simona had a pretty solid season in her first season racing for a team not named HVM. She started out very well at St. Petersburg and continued to show success in the season, finishing in the top-ten nine times, including her first career podium at Houston Race 1. But more consistency was needed in order to earn a better championship position. She has continued to show a lack of pace on ovals. Sure she finished in the top-ten at Fontana, but that was more because she survived rather than raced well, as she finished several laps down. And her teammate Tony Kanaan was always quick on the ovals, making it even worse. A mid-season stretch hurt her confidence, with P17, 16, 24, 16, 24, and 21 all in a row from Indianapolis to Iowa. Not good enough. But her finish to the season did put a nice bow on the season.

Simona is not going to be back in Indycar next season. She has signed on to be the reserve driver for the Formula 1 team Sauber. She had a good run in Indycar, and we all wish her the best in her future!
