Season Review: Sebastian Saavedra

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reviews, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Sebastian Saavedra
#6 Dragon Racing

21st in points scoring 236 points.

Best finish: 8th (Baltimore)
Worst finish: 32nd (Indianapolis)

Best moment: P8 at Baltimore
Worst moment: Double bird salute at Detroit

Grade: F

Sebastian Saavedra, age 23, saw a bad situation get worse throughout the season. He entered the Dragon Racing seat in a bizarre manner, filling the seat of a recently fired Katherine Legge. Legge, who is adored by many fans. Saavedra, at no fault of his own, carried a bad vibe driving Katherine's old car, irking many fans. Sebastian's season did not get much better. He had the lowest points scored, average start and finish position, lowest amount of laps completed, and was one of three drivers not to lead a lap* (* signifies previous stats listed are amongst the full time drivers in the field). The moment that summed up his year was getting into an incident with Marco Andretti at race one at Detroit, where contact was made sending Saavedra into the tires. With ABC cameras fixed on him, Saavedra gave the double middle finger salute to Marco as he drove by. This incident plus him responding to Katherine Legge on Twitter, calling her a "lick ass", has made me lose all respect for Saavedra. I am, however, fully expecting him to return for the 2014 season with Dragon Racing. How many chances will he get?

I will say, his car for the early portion of May is stunning. But the performance
was not. A rough season for Sebastian Saavedra (Photo: Michael Hickey)

Stay tuned for P20, Tristan Vautier!
