Greatest Drivers of All Time #9: Dale Earnhardt

In a new series I am doing on the blog, I take a look at the greatest fifteen drivers in the history of motorsports, with some statistics and reasons as to why I selected them. Here are the previous drivers on the list:

#15 Jim Clark
#14 Dario Franchitti
#13 Sir Jackie Stewart
#12 Jimmie Johnson
#11 Michael Schumacher
#10 Al Unser Jr.

Dale Earnhardt

Born: April 29, 1951 Kannapolis, USA
Died: February 18, 2001
Race starts: 676
Wins: 76
Poles: 22
Nascar Titles: 7
Daytona 500 Wins: 1

THE INTIMIDATER. Just typing that scares me a little. So I can't imagine what a driver was thinking when they saw the #3 drive up behind them. Yes, The Intimidater Dale Earnhardt had that affect on people. But you have to be able to back up your attitude on the track, and Dale did that very well. He won 76 races and a whopping 7 NASCAR Titles. His greatest moment in his career had to be getting that all elusive Daytona 500 win in 1998. But we lost Dale at Daytona in 2001 after a violent crash where he hit head on with the wall. A terrible day in motorsports history, Dale will always be remember for his tenacity and love of the sport and its great friends. Rest in peace Dale.

Stay tuned for #8. Let me know what you think.
