Season Review: Josef Newgarden

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reveiws, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Josef Newgarden
#67 Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing

14th in points scoring 348 points.

Best finish: 2nd (Baltimore)
Worst finish: 28th (Indianapolis)

Best moment: Podium at Baltimore
Worst moment: Indianapolis

Grade: B

A mega bounce back year for Josef Newgarden is exactly what fans wanted to see from the young sophomore Indycar driver. A first career podium finish at Baltimore as well as three other top-fives at Sao Paulo, Pocono, and Houston Race 1 were all other highlights of his season. Yes there were some bumps along the way, like a DNF at the first round at St. Petersburg and a brutal performance at Indianapolis, but overall, Josef showed us that he has what it takes. His race craft at Sao Paulo and Baltimore nearly got him some wins, showing he's got what it takes.

Josef will be back with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing for his third season with the Indianapolis based squad. This is Newg's contract year, so couple that with the fact that Josef is primed for a breakout season, and you have a recipe, well, for a breakout season. I have high hopes for the young American this season.
