Season Review: Takuma Sato

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reveiws, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Takuma Sato
#14 AJ Foyt Enterprises

17th in points scoring 322 points.

Best finish: 1st (Long Beach)
Worst finish: 24th (x2 Toronto Race 1 and Baltimore)

Best moment: First win at Long Beach
Worst moment: Iowa

Grade: D+

What an up and down season for Takuma Sato. Up until Iowa, he had a rather good season going! Winning at Long Beach is a huge accomplishment. Almost winning at Sao Paulo is also a big deal. A good run at Indianapolis was ruined with a spin. All was well for Sato after a 7th place finish at Milwaukee... And then something happened. Sato DNF'd nine of the next ten races, with a best finish P14 at Houston Race 2. His average finish over the last ten races was a catastrophically terrible 20.6. How awful is that? Sato clearly has the talent but holy lord the second half of the season for him was nothing short of terrible. Only reason he didn't get an F was because of his first half performance. He was leading in points at one point! What happened?

Fortunately for Sato, he will back with the legend AJ Foyt next year. Foyt was skeptical about Sato's contract for next season based on his second half of the season. AJ had a change of heart, deciding to bring back Sato for 2014. Will Sato show more consistency?
