Season Review: Ed Carpenter

In a series of blogs that will be featured throughout the offseason, I review and talk about all 21 full-time drivers of the 2013 Indycar Season one at a time. I try to be as honest as I can in these reveiws, and I would like to hear your thoughts on what I say. Enjoy:

Ed Carpenter
#20 Ed Carpenter Racing

16th in points scoring 333 points.

Best finish: 2nd (Fontana)
Worst finish: 23rd (x2 Sao Paulo and Houston 1)

Best moment: Pole at Indianapolis
Worst moment: Race at Indianapolis

Grade: C

It was another typical Ed Carpenter year for Ed Carpenter; A great showing on ovals, and so very meh on road courses. On road courses, he's still nowhere close to where he needs to be as far as pace compared to the rest of the field. However, it would ignorant not to acknowledge his growth and progress on road courses. And it was a great moment when Ed won the pole at Indianapolis. But I expected a top-five performance from Ed at Indy. It was looking good, as he was up front almost all of the first half of the race. Then he disappeared late in the race and brought home a P9 result. A good result for most, but for Ed, it just seemed like a letdown. He was once again solid on ovals, but no wins in 2013 also put a damper on things.

It looked likely that Ed Carpenter would earn a new contract from Ed Carpenter to drive for Ed Carpenter Racing, and technically that is true. But Ed will only be racing on the ovals in 2014, giving the road course duties to twisty ace Mike Conway. Expect great things from both drivers this season.
