Long Beach: Winners and Losers

Here are the Winners, Losers, and The Cone of Shame recipient after the race at Long Beach:

Winners

Chevrolet
Haha, what 10 spot grid penalty? These engines have some hustle behind the muscle and they toasted everyone in the race. Imagine if they didn't have the grid penalties....

Will Power
I had tweeted it, but I'll say it again: I am so impressed with Will Power, especially in the last two races. I was always one to believe he was just a guy who could qualify and run up front the whole race. For the second straight race, he carved his way through the field, and somehow made enough fuel to finish. Unreal.

Simon Pagenaud
Wow. Simon drove one hell of a race. He was the fastest in the race and led the most laps. It was a shame that the three stop strategy didn't work out for him in the end, but everyone, including the crowd on hand, was impressed with Simon.

Dale Coyne Racing
At one point, they were running P4 and P5. The results kind of got screwed by Helio at the end, but I have been re-convinced that this team is heading for brighter pastures.

Losers

Honda
Imagine if Tiger Woods was playing golf against Phil Mickelson, except Phil didn't get his irons, and Phil goes on to beat Tiger. That is basically what happened. Honda occupied nine of the top ten spots on the grid and ended up with two of the top ten spots at the race conclusion.

Ganassi Racing
Shocking. That is how I sum it up. They sucked. Dixon had a failure. Dario was using his right foot to brake again. Kimball had a failure. And Rahal was starting a war with the Andretti's. Great job team.

Andretti vs Rahal
This is going to boil over into something big. The two biggest names in Indycar right now are at each others necks right now, and Graham was quoted as saying, 'What's Marco's last name? I've said enough."

Dario Franchitti
Nice job of knocking off your front wing against Briscoe. Also a nice job on turn one when Newgarden got hit into the wall. Also a nice job on those restarts where it looked like you were stuck in first gear. Dario will not be winning the title this season.

Cone of Shame

Indycar's Rear Bumper
For those who weren't following me awhile ago, I did question the legitimacy of the rear bumper. ( http://indycarmn.blogspot.com/2011/12/taking-look-at-rear-of-bumper-of-dw12.html ) I did not know the car would completely bypass the device and go for a flight! This situation needs to be addressed by Indycar and Dallara. Thankfully this didn't happen on an oval and Marco, Graham, and Dixie were all okay.

Let me know what you think.
